Where's June?

This month has been an absolute whirlwind. We started the month off with our annual Weekend in the Woods, in Graegle Ca. We had 25 in atttendance. Lots of fun was had by all. Silly games with prizes, UFO'S completed, Mini classes taught, food eaten, new friendships were made , and oh the best part LAUGHTER! The plans for next year are already underway.



















On June 11 my Mom had major surgery, a left carotid endarterectomy.
Surgery went well, but it sure took forever. My years as a nurse seem to cause me great angst when it comes to those I love. My mind goes to the "what ifs." Reminder to self, I am not the one in control. So now almost three weeks later Mom is doing well, still a little tired, but that is normal. My Aunt Nita came to help out, what a lifesaver. The bond that sisters share is such a powerful love. My Mom is 86 and Aunt Nita will be celebrating her 90th birthday the end of July. Such amazing ladies. I love you Potratz girls!


Rocki and Ronda headed to McCloud to vendor for a Linda Ballard mystery the second weekend in June. Great weather, great ladies, great quilt, great accommodations, great town, great scenery and a world class teacher. What more could you ask for?

My husband took our son-in-law and grandkids deep sea fishing the third weekend in June. So Jen and I took great advantage of our alone time. With Ronda's help we quilted 6 quilts and pieced a bunch of new tops. Did I mention we laughed a lot?










Mark and I went to Quincy on June 21st. The Crazy Quilters of Quincy asked if I would be their speaker for June and bring a mini store. The women in that quilt guild are some of the kindest quilters I have ever met. Kudos to you crazy quilters of Quincy and thank you so much for your hospitality. Carolyn took us on a barn tour the next day. What a treat! Enjoy the pics.


















So we have one more weekend left in June and we hope to work in our yard. Our son and his wife are coming for a visit and I don't want to do chores while they are here. Enjoy your weekend.

Aftermath of Kansas City

Back home to pine pollen, daily chores, and of course work. Market was great! There is always so much to absorb and really not enough time to contemplate what new things to buy. We felt like the new patterns and books were really creative and different this year. Extra suitcases came home loaded with fabric, books, patterns, thread and ideas galore. Of course more goodies are being shipped. We found lots of new wool and embroidery patterns. So much talent was discovered along every aisle at the convention center. I always crack myself up when I see someone "famous" and get all excited. Now I'm not talking Brad Pitt or George Clooney. I'm talking Amy Butler, Camille Roskelley, Sandy Klopp, Valorie Wells, Anna Maria Horner, Joanna Figueroa, Tula Pink, Lynette Anderson, and the list goes on and on. These talented people enrich, enhance and move our industry higher and higher. Thank you!

Last Night in Kansas City

I have never laughed so much at Market!! After a hectic day of buying, buying, and more buying we went to a party at The Kansas City Star. We had a great finger food dinner, wine, beer and lots of new friends to meet. Of course there were very famous designers and authors to hobnob with. Kansas City Star authors were invited to share their quilts with us, over a hundred were displayed.

So here are a few pictures for you to enjoy.



The Kansas City Star has been printing for over 130 years employing many people such as, Henry Truman and Ernest Hemingway. The Wall Street Journal is also published at The Star.











Four quilts made in honor of the Kansas City garment district. The quilting was extraordinary. We where allowed to take pictures so here are some of my favorite.

Happy Mother's Day to all!

Mothers, the glue that binds, the compass that leads us, the never ending love and support, the advice that isn't always wanted but given with love, acceptance, the cozy place when we are down, the one who cooks those special family meals, the safe refuge, the nurse, the child's prayer warrior, the listener, and of course the worrier. To my Mom I say thank you for 60 years of unconditional love and guidance.
To my daughter and my son I say thank you for the privilege and honor of being your mom. The joy you have brought to my life is indescribable. I am so proud of the people you have become. The world needs more like you, compassionate, unselfish, kind, generous of your time and gifts, ethical and honest. I love you and I am so thankful that your mine.

So far my weekend has been fabulous. Mark and I went on a date Friday night (a rarity for a shop owner), Saturday I took a class with Jen and some great friends and teacher Linda Ballard, and today we are having Mothers day dinner at Brian and Jens. Perfect!

My newest embroidery project is Snow days. These are my first 2 blocks and number 3 is almost done.
